Sleep Series -
Cotton sheets, polyester, coffee-dye, cotton thread.
Some of our most profound desires - comfort, warmth, rest- are found in the bed and in sleep-related paraphernalia. It is inevitable then, that these objects of sleep have become vessels pervaded with expectations of refuge and renewal.
Sleep is an ongoing project relating to the amorphisms of chronic illness and our relationship to objects of sleep. As pliable artefacts subject to my own narcoleptic sleep/wake cycles, these used sheets and sleep clothes are severed and subsequently re-joined in a process grounded in intervention, reclamation and mending as healing.
Unified by gestural and frequently incidental sutures, the separation and crude reconciliation of used cotton and polyester materials is a performative act, an enquiry into my own somnipathy and the diaphanous materiality of sleep textiles and the body.
